Project Based Learning

 Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning is an instructional approach built upon learning activities. This student centered pedagogy is generally done in groups of students working together toward a common goal. Last year I used to teach in an international school where I had the opportunity to apply the PBL technique with my primary students. I found this technique more useful in subjects such as science and humanities. Dealing with PBL my role as a teacher changed from that of the leader of the class to the facilitator. Since projects were assigned in groups activities students had to collaborate and communicate with each other for their project. I found an improvement mostly with the students who had lack of communication with the other part of the class, they just had a couple of friends that they used to spend their free time but by making a random selection of the groups they were able to improve their communication skills with other students to. Also another improvement that I sow was with lower-achieving students who were more motivated and engaged in their studies. PBL is effective in helping students to understand apply and retain information easily and in small amount of time. On my opinion PLB is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent boredom and make your classes more enjoyable.

  1. I really agree with the fact that this method prevents boredom and I also think that it attracts student's attention and it makes them interact more in the classroom.

  2. Hi Marsida,
First of all thank you for sharing your experience with us. By my personal experience as a student years ago, I agree that using PBL method in class is the simpliest and the most effective one. We enjoyed having classes and collaborating together as a team group.
